Mini hiking break on the Gendarme Path
In collaboration with Hotel Sønderborg Strand we give you here the opportunity to experience the Gendarme Path for a day followed by a 2-course menu and overnight accommodation at this attractive hotel which is situated at the edge of the beach and historic surroundings in Sønderborg.
It’s no surprise that the Gendarme Path is a popular hiking route. The path winds along the fjord coast and has a unique history and rich wildlife and vegetation. On this mini break we give you the chance to experience a section of this attractive path, at the same time as which you can enjoy a 2-course menu, overnight stay and breakfast buffet at Hotel Sønderborg Strand. The hotel is situated right on the edge of the Gendarme Path and at a short distance from Sønderborg Castle and the town centre.
You arrive at the hotel in the morning and drop your baggage in reception. You will then be picked up by a driver who’ll drive you out to a point of your choice on the Gendarme Path, after which you walk back to Sønderborg and the hotel.
You can, for example, choose to be driven out past Dybbøl, and on the way back to Sønderborg visit historic Dybbøl Banke and see the iconic Dybbøl Mill. The history centre is open on Saturdays and Sundays in November, February and March, in addition to the last 3 weekends in January and the whole of week 7. (Saturdays 1.00 p.m. and Sundays 11.00 a.m.). Another option is to be driven out to Skovby. On the way back you pass close by the watermill at Vibæk. The watermill from 1756 is well worth a visit on your walk (note that the watermill is not manned outside the season).
On arrival back at the hotel, you’ll be given your room key.
In the evening, a 2-course dinner chosen by the chef will be served. After a good night’s sleep in a shared double room, you can tuck into the large breakfast buffet while enjoying the view of the water.
