In the Duke's Name - Eat, drink, and revel with Duke Hans
How did Duke Hans dine in the 16th century? What spices were used to flavor his meals? Where did the food come from? And in what manner was it eaten? Now you have the opportunity to get answers to all these questions and many more as the Hertug Hans Festival, on behalf of Duke Hans the Elder and Queen Dorothea, invites you to a unique Renaissance banquet in the grand tent in Damparken. During the nearly three-hour-long banquet, you will be taken on a sensory journey back to the spiced dishes of the Renaissance. Here, you will get to taste all sorts of spices that were new, expensive, and brought back from the New World by the great explorers of the 16th century. You will also be able to enjoy food that the hunting-loving Duke Hans surely had served himself when he stayed at Hansborg Castle or perhaps at his hunting lodge Grøngård near Tønder. As always, Anette Prip from the Hertug Hans Festival has pursued the good taste in the old recipes and ordered plenty of fish, genuine wild boar, and spiced nuts for a menu that is sure to appeal to all your senses. The banquet is not just an outstanding culinary experience. The meal will also be garnished with whimsical jugglers and merry musicians who bring life to the mischief and music of the 16th century. So, there's also a guarantee of getting your funny bone tickled. And perhaps there are one or two more surprises waiting.... There are only a limited number of tickets for the historic banquet. The evening concludes with a spectacular fire show
