Cycling Holiday on Flensburg Fjord Route

Flensburg Fjord Route is a cycling route that takes you through the nature and charming towns of the borderlands. The entire route is 307 km and crosses the Danish/German border, so remember to pack your passport, allowing you to take a detour to the neighbouring town of Flensburg.
On this cycling holiday, you will cycle approximately 165 km of the route over 5 days. Each day is divided into stages, allowing for detours and relaxation on some days, while other days involve more kilometres to the next destination. So pack your panniers and set out on a beautiful cycling tour around Sønderjylland.
Flensburg Fjord Route is not signposted, but before the trip, you will receive a guidebook for the route, and a GPX file can be downloaded to your bike computer.
Day 1.
Park your car at Danhostel Sønderborg Vollerup, as this is where the cycling tour will end in 4 days. Check in and enjoy a relaxing evening before tomorrows bikeride. It is possible to eat dinner at Danhostel Sønderborg Vollerup - call in advance to make a reservation.

Day 2
Stage 3. Sønderborg – Sønderhav (56 km)
Before starting on the Flensburg Fjord Route, you need to cycle 6 km to Sønderborg, where the cycling route starts once you cross Christian the 10th's bridge. From here, the route leads to Visherredgaard Ferielejlighed, located in Sønderhav. It's a bike ride of about 50 km. Visherredgaard Ferielejlighed offers rooms with private bathrooms, and dinner will be delivered from Hotel Sønderborg Strand, consisting of tapas with some of Sønderjyllands delicacies.

Day 3.
Stage 3+6. Sønderhav – Padborg (22 km)
In the morning, you will receive a tray with breakfast and some extra to make a packed lunch. Today's bike ride goes from Sønderhav to Padborg, but first, you will cross the Danish/German border and it's time to explore Flensburg. Flensburg is a port city offering a wealth of good dining options and charming streets to explore. After exploring Flensburg, you cycle back to Denmark, towards Bov Kro for the night. If you haven't eaten in Flensburg, it is possible to reserve a table for dinner at Bov Kro, but this must be done before arrival.

Day 4.
Stage 6. Padborg – Aabenraa (43 km)
After breakfast at Bov Kro, the bike ride heads north towards Aabenraa. The cycling route follows Hærvejen, through fields and the rolling South Jutland landscape. In the evening, you will stay at Skovridergaarden, located close to Aabenraa town center. After check-in, you can cycle down to Aabenraa to find a good place for dinner and enjoy the town.
It is not possible to order breakfast at Skovridergaarden, so we recommend that you buy breakfast supplies for the next day, which can be prepared in the small kitchenette provided.

Day 5.
Stage 1 Aabenraa – Sønderborg (50 km)
Today’s final stage of the bike tour heads towards Sønderborg. The bike ride is 50 km to Sønderborg, where you started the tour. Flensburg Fjord Route ends after you cross Christian the 10th's bridge, and from there it is an additional 6 km to Danhostel Sønderborg Vollerup, where you will spend the last night. You can choose to have dinner in Sønderborg before cycling to the hostel or dine at the hostel.

Day 6
Breakfast and safe travels home.
TRAVEL TIP:
If you arrive by train to Sønderborg, it is possible to start at Sønderborg Train Station, Alsion 2, 6400 Sønderborg. Your car can remain parked there throughout the tour. If this is the case, the last overnight stay can be omitted from the program. Send us an email or call, and we will assist you.
